Return to Track

So yesterday I ran in my first meet since freshman year for the indoor track team. Being back on the Tower Hill track really brought some memories. The scenery was familiar but my nerves were on edge. As I was getting ready to began my first event I took a nice deep breath to calm my anxiety. My first event was a relay race and as I was handed the baton for my leg of the race my nerves seemed to melt away. Immediately, adrenaline rushed through my body and I jolted with baton in hand. At first I felt great as I rounded the first turn even though I was no were near the lead runner. I felt as though I was really zooming on the track. However, once I finished my leg I felt like I ran like a turtle. I was breathing heavy so I know I legitimately tried in the race, but a part of me felt as though I could have gone faster. While that was not my highlight of the meet I still enjoyed myself getting back into the swing of things.

Christmas

I love Christmas as much as the next guy but sometimes I feel as though people rush the holiday. I mean just look at stores. Every year it seems like Christmas themed items hit the shelves earlier and earlier. I know it's the best holiday of the year but what about the other holidays they need there own spotlight too. For example, Thanksgiving easily gets overshadowed by Christmas. This year when I was at my Thanksgiving dinner there was Christmas music playing. I was a little irritated by this because I knew that we were no where near the time of year for this type of music. I feel as though people need to wait at least until December 1st before they start getting into the Christmas spirit. Again, I know Christmas might be the best holiday but people need to show some more respect to the other surrounding holidays

Fake News

On November 26th, 2016 the New York Police Department (NYPD) acquired information on a supposed meth lab off of 5th Avenue. There have previously been reports of suspected drug dealers traveling down the road on repeated occasions. On November 28th, 2016 The NYPD infiltrated the lab accounting for 500 lbs of methamphetamine and several unregistered firearms. That day I was able to talk to the Chief of the NYPD, Michael Halpert, about the 5th Avenue drug bust. He told me, “It was a job well done by two of the best officers on the case, Robert Will and Daniel Smith”. After conversing with the Chief I hunted down officers Will and Smith to see if they could give me some more information on about the case. I found officer Will at a desk in the station. I asked, “Officer can I speak to you about the drug bust on 5th Avenue?”. Officer Will politely agreed and I began bombarding him with questions. He told me all about what went down since the beginning of when him and his partner were given the case. He started, “Once officer Smith and I got the orders on the 26th we immediately decided that night we would have a stakeout to see if there was a lot of activity in the building where the meth lab was supposed to be. That night we saw many known drug dealers walk into the building but what really caught our eyes was that a known gang leader by name of Trey Wall also made an appearance at the building. At this point we knew something big was going down. Luckily my partner, officer Smith was actually an undercover cop in the gang Trey ran so we had a way to find out what was going on in that building. Smith decided that the next day he would try to find out as much information as possible by asking people in the gang to see if anyone knew anything about the building. The following night Smith told me that not many people in the gang new about the building on 5th Avenue. However, he was able to pick up some information that a new drug dealer had set up shop there about a few months ago. So we decided the next night that we would bust in the building to collect the drugs and arrest anyone who was there. We followed typical procedure for being allowed to enter the building and we decided to bring 7 other cops on the bust. Officer Smith was unable to attend because we had to make sure his cover was still fine. When we ran into the building there was no one to be found but all of the drugs Smith told me about were still there”. I asked officer Will where was officer Smith? Office Will replied, “I haven’t seen him since the night before the drug bust. I really hope he is fine, but I know being an undercover cop is dangerous. If I had to guess I would say he has left town for a little bit so his profile can cool down. Overall, this was a great bust the station has seen in a long time”. So drug dealers be weary of your work because the NYPD will find a way to catch you and bring your work to justice.

Two Types of Love

I usually don't get to emotional but this topic has been apparent in my life as of now.

I believe that there are only 2 types of love. So here are my thoughts on both:

Compassion: Is the type of love that makes you want to be around that significant person. When you are away from that person all you can do is think about that person. I believe compassionate love comes from a person's heart. This type of love needs to be founded on companionship, dependability, and trust. With these key concepts a relationship can last forever. I believe if a relationship is founded just on lust then that relationship is doomed to fail eventually.

Sexual: Is the type of love that is pure appearance and arousal. There are many people who are physically appealing so there is no point in rushing to have a specific person par take in sexual love because there are a lot of fish in the sea. I'm sure this type of love is nice to par take in but it is not that important unless you believe love is a numbers game to see how large your body count can get. If a person is so worried about sex then they can stimulate themselves they don't need another partner to feel this type of love.

Based on all the information I have gathered from my own love life as well as others I believe compassionate love is what will keep a person coming back to that significant other in there life.

Assigned Blog 1: What I like to do

Assignment: Something you do in your free time and why you love it.

Answer: Watching TV Shows

I have come to realize that I watch a ton of television shows during my free time. This has become a daily thing for me because it is so easy to get involved in the activity. While meeting with friends and going out is fun, it requires a planned out scenario of which more than half of the time some of the friends can’t even make it to the event. Television shows offer a relaxing sense that I have come to love so much. When watching television shows my problems seem to disappear. I’m simply transferred into a zone. This zone transports me from the real world to the television show’s world. Almost every show I watch I wish that their world could be my world. For example, I have watched two shows called Pokemon and Naruto. How cool would life be if these worlds were real? One is about traveling the world to find Pokemon and battling to be the best trainer. The other is about a life as a ninja where you train to become the best you can be. You may be asking, “why would these worlds be cool?” Well, this is an easy one, after like age 10 there is no more school, you are basically allowed to what you want whenever you want, and the kids seem to have money at all times while they don’t even have a job. This sounds like heaven to me since I would know my purpose in life, which would be an interesting one. Where as now the purpose I see right now is to get a good job, have normal life, then die.

P.S. : I am not morbid I’m just saying that real life is just boring. But I still try to have as much fun as possible.

In Good Company

So yesterday I saw this movie titled "In Good Company". I ended up watching it with my grandparents since they have been asking me to watch it since the beginning of the school year. My mom mom kept telling me, "Travis this movie reminds me so much of you". Hearing this I really had no idea what I would be in for. Turns out the movie was actually amazing. The movie was all about "real life" situations. One of the key themes in the movie was that you can think, at first, your life is great, but really you are missing something and you don't like how your life has turned out to be. In the beginning of the movie the antagonist is this "hot shot", young businessman who has everything. By the end of the movie he gets offered the same job he had before he was fired, and he turns it down. This is huge because he was able to have everything he wanted again yet he just throws it away. Supposedly, he truly didn't love his job so he wanted to look for something more, therefore he could enjoy his life. I however disagree with the antagonists move because sometimes you have to power through your unhappiness so you can better yourself and have more material things. I am a pretty strong believer that money can in fact buy happiness. Another theme of the movie was that things can change in an instant. Two key examples in the movie were the antagonists wife leaving him after only 7 months of marriage and when people in company would get fired just because the company would get bought out by another company. This really got to me because I have a set plan for the next 10 years of my life and if I was to lose my job that plan would crumble to pieces and I wouldn't know what to do. Overall, this movie is top notch for portraying a realistic view on life and it also had some hysterical comedy thrown in as well. I believe everyone should watch this intriguingly realistic movie.

1st Law of Physics: Everyone Fails!

AP Physics is the hardest class in the world! I have never typically gotten straight A's in all my classes but this class is different. I am actually doing fairly well in the class, cruising with an 83 so far. While that is pretty good I do not feel as though it represents my true understanding of the topic. I have asked people this question before, "Have you ever felt like you were the dumbest person in the room?" Every single one has laughed at this question as though it is a joke to them. However, I reassure them that it is not a joke. This is truly how I feel in the class. I hope to eventually master physics but that could take awhile.

College Fun?

Finally, the last year of high school! I made it! Next year I'll be in college partying it up! Right? Well, I have come to realize just trying to get into college is a lot of work. Right now I want to relax not stress about doing all these applications. Why can't colleges just come to me and say, "I like you here's a full ride to my school". I'm typically an optimistic person, but I do not want to spend all this time filling out applications just so I can receive a rejection letter. I'm getting so excited for next year, but all this preliminary nonsense is really bringing down my vibe. From all the movies I have seen and stories I have heard college seems like such an enjoyable time. Until I get accepted and in my dorm I will not know how good college will be.

Stay On Course

When you are determined to complete a task, follow through with your goals. When you set your mind to do something, do not under any circumstances fail to finish what you have started. Unfortunately, I have strolled of my original path. I set my mind on working out everyday. This may seem easy to do for most people but for me it is hard to stay focused. I am not happy with my decision to veer of course. I have let simple, unnecessary obstacles block me from my original destination. Some these include sleeping, hanging out with friends, and playing video games. People say the first way to recovery is to admit that you have a problem. I try not to preach to people, but since I have identified my problem I ask that everyone who veers from there goals take a minute to realize have you truly stayed on course? It may not be easy to get back on your original path but just know everyone can do it. No matter how long it takes a simple change in your mindset can cause a snowball like reaction that gets you back on course. #motivation

Football is Back

Last night was the first NFL football game in over 6 months. Although I'm not a Broncos or Panthers fan I still watched the whole game because it got me in the football mood. When football is here it is one of the only things I look forward to on the weekends. Football season is one of the only times of the year I get to have control of what is on my television on Sundays. Football season is not just about the games itself. It is about the time you spend with friends, family, and connecting with other fans. My favorite part of the football season has to be talking about the subject with almost anyone I meet. Whether through fantasy football or their favorite team, the knowledge I hold along with conversing with others about football makes it hold such an importance in my life.

Time to lift

It's 2:15, less then a half an hour before it goes down. What's going down you might ask? Simply, dedication and determination for success. Success that is represented through lifting. I have a small home gym at my house that includes some dumbbells, a bench, a bar, and a lot of weights. Although this is a small setup I use it to the maximum ability. I wanted to start lifting junior year but never got around to it. This year my stepfather set up this gym which finally gave me no more excuses for not lifting. So far I have been lifting for about 2 weeks. While, people say it takes 21 days to form a habit, I have forced myself to stick with this until I reach my goals. The whole reason I wanted to start lifting in the first place was that I realized I'm kind of scrawny, and I refuse to look like a twig for the rest of my life. So I will give you all these inspirational words that I am following now: if you don't like it, do something about it. #getbig #swolelife #doyouevenliftbro
